  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Outreach Manager holds responsibility for managing Goodwill’s volunteer program, overseeing community donation events and supporting fundraising events.  S/he will create successful outcomes for volunteers and donation partnerships that result in the agency with the overall goal to build Goodwill's reputation in the community. She /he collaborates with the community engagement team as well as other departments – notably mission services, retail and transportation, achieve goals for volunteers and donated items that support Goodwill's mission.


    All agency volunteers and donation drive leads report to the Community Outreach Manager. The Manager will oversee recruitment, training and evaluation of volunteers and the donation drive leads.  


    Essential Functions

    • Cultivate relationship with social, civic and local organizations to develop partnerships for volunteers, donation drives or other fundraising opportunities
    • Collaborate with other agency team members to develop volunteer opportunities, assess risk and outline recruitment strategies  
    • Recruit & train new volunteers; keep volunteers engaged through volunteer newsletter, volunteer Facebook ground and/or other tools the manager finds effective
    • Provide guidance to agency staff for oversight of scheduled volunteers working at various or departments
    • Act as agency point-person for donation events, keeping  transportation, staff and volunteers informed of all donation logistics; ensure timely follow up and report results
    • Addresses volunteer and donation drive issues as they arise, along with performance concerns, and works towards a mutually favorable outcome
    • Works closely with the  graphic designer and community engagement specialist to promote volunteer opportunities, donation events and create effective marketing tools
    • All other duties as assigned by Director of Community Engagement, including supporting any event planning related to the annual fundraising events


    The Community Outreach Manager will be a proven leader with the following:


    • One-three years’ experience in event management, donation outreach and volunteer management.
    • Strong commitment to Goodwill and Goodwill’s mission
    • Energetic and enthusiastic when representing Goodwill in the community
    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, and manage time, asking for help when needed
    • Works effectively with people in a variety of high-stress situations
    • Is organized, meets deadlines and coordinates small/large projects
    • Communicates professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, volunteers and members of the public at all times, demonstrating positive customer service and an upbeat team-oriented attitude
    • Supports community engagement team on other events, marketing, fundraising or community-based projects as needed
    • Bachelor’s Degree, Nonprofit Management or other relevant certification of expertise preferred. A combination of education and appropriate experience will be considered.
