  • Responsibilities

     the Payroll Specialist is responsible for assisting the Finance Department in accomplishing the Agency’s financial goals and objectives by processing payroll and reconciling benefits for all Agency employees.

    • Keying payroll data into payroll system each week
    • Verifying payroll entries of overtime, PTO, vacation, etc.
    • Ensuring applicable federal and/or state payroll and DOL laws are followed
    • Figuring retroactive pay as needed
    • Accruing and tracking usage of PTO, sick leave and benefits
    • Communicating with payroll software support, as needed
    • Handling distribution / Mailing of paychecks/paystubs and W-2’s
    • Overtime reporting, yearend and other ad-hoc reporting requirements
    • Supporting Financial Annual and Benefit Audits
    • Maintaining the payroll files in designated order
    • Ensuring timecards sent in from outlying areas are processed and kept in a timely and accurate manner
    • Being responsible for communication of file information for legal requests
    • Ensuring file confidentiality according to Agency policy
    • Ensuring garnishment and/or support order information is entered into the payroll database timely and accurately
    • Accurately completing government reports in a timely manner, as required
    • Completing salary history verifications, as needed

    Qualifications

    Payroll Specialist will be a proven leader with the following:

    • Experience in Paycor a plus
    • Proficient in an office environment and the ability to quickly learn payroll software
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to use, office equipment such as faxes and copiers
    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
    • One to three years as in the payroll field
    • Extensive knowledge of payroll law
    • Ability to remain confidential
    • Ability to spend long hours at a computer terminal, filing or performing data entry
    • Accurate record keeping, 10-key and data entry skills
