Internships are valuable opportunities for trainees to try out a career, apply their education in a hands-on way, and build a professional network. This intern will play an active role in the Mission Advancement Department researching policy issues, preparing staff and volunteer advocates for events and meetings, and building relationships between Goodwill and community partners and elected officials.
This intern will strive to help the Mission Advancement Department create the foundation of an advocacy strategy. This includes, but is not limited to, building a list of priority elected officials and their bios, deciding which legislative issues and bills to track, and producing one-pagers that describe issues to staff and volunteer advocates to prepare them for meetings. This strategy will be applied by Goodwill beyond this internship period. Through this experience, an intern will gain research skills, intimate knowledge of the legislative process, a working knowledge of a number of policy issues that impact persons with disabilities and workforce development, and an opportunity to develop networking abilities.
