  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the President/CEO, the Vice President of Finance/CFO is responsible for assisting the President/CEO with all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost/benefit analysis and forecasting.  The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing and managing the financial-related activities of the company and will oversee the financial compliance of contracts and funding.

    • Working closely with the CEO, senior leadership and the board of directors to implement strategies across the organization
    • Providing direct management oversight of assigned divisions or departments
    • Building a culture of excellence and discipline that can be modeled by all levels of agency leadership
    • Representing the company to financial institutions, foundations, funding sources, auditors and other Goodwill Executives
    • Providing leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of financial objectives
    • Overseeing all aspects of the finance, accounting and payroll functions of the organization
    • Applying the highest level ethical standards to agency operations at all times
    • Overseeing cash, investment and asset management, as well as financial activities
    • Directing the preparation and communication of timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements for staff and Board of Directors
    • Ensuring reporting for federal and state agencies and/or funders is timely, accurate and useful
    • Maintaining all financial information and records necessary to produce information as requested or required
    • Serving as the custodian for all important financial records, papers, contracts, etc. kept on the premises.
    • Planning, preparing, and monitoring complex annual budgets
    • Assuming responsibility for the security and confidentiality of all financial records or records within the scope of the finance business functions
    • Ensure compliance with DOL, ERISA, Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP.
    • Coordinating audits and tax activities
    • Utilizing financial data to make appropriate and strategic recommendations regarding long and short-term objectives and plans
    • Remaining up to date on non-profit best practices and state and federal laws as they pertain to non-profits
    • Assuming responsibility for analyzing the financial impact of long-range plans of other divisions and making recommendations, if needed
    • Analyzing the usefulness of the current financial management software systems, making recommendations for upgrading and improving as needed
    • Overseeing the impact of long and short term strategic plans on the budget, recommending adjustments as needed
    • Leading the development of realistic budgets for each division, assisting the divisional management with budget planning activities, as required
    • Assuming responsibility for preparing and presenting the annual budget to the Agency’s Board of Directors
    • Continuously evaluating the Agency’s performance and the budget impact, making recommendations and/or adjustments when needed, communicating issues as they arise
    • All other duties assigned by the President/CEO.

    Qualifications

    The Vice President of Finance/CFO will be a proven leader with the following:

    • Minimum of five years of progressive management experience
    • Demonstrated experience in outcomes-based management
    • Understanding of complex public funding, non-profit accounting and compliance
    • Experience in medium to large non-profit helpful
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field required. MBA and/or CPA preferred.
    • Commitment to life-long learning
    • Knowledge and demonstrated experience budgeting for complex organization with multiple funding sources and business models
    • Knowledge and demonstrated experience complying with legal issues surrounding payroll, DOL, ERISA, Sarbanes-Oxley
    • Sound judgment in consulting on Agency financial matters
    • Ability to gain support from peers and Board of Directors on recommendations, ideas or concepts
    • Commitment to the mission of the organization
    • Skill in analyzing, developing, reengineering and recommending financial policies, procedures and practices
    • Ability to multi-task, performing several duties simultaneously without loss of composure and maintaining high quality
    • Expert knowledge of financial systems, not limited to GAAP and FASB regulations
