Reporting to the Career Impact Program Manager, the Employment Skills Trainer develops, coordinates, and facilitates employment skills training within a correctional center.  The employment skills training consists of soft skills support, interview and resume preparation, vocational goal development, job support techniques and independent job searches. Responsible for client interaction and providing services at the assigned correctional center, to include; program intake, job search assistance and follow-up activities. In addition, the employment skills trainer will work closely with the retail operations store managers to ensure participant placement and support once participants have completed the employment skills training portion of the GoodPath program.


Essential Functions

  • Facilitate employment skills training to participants within correctional center
  • Assist in the development of the employment skills training curriculum
  • Conduct participant intake, employment training sessions and follow-up activities as required
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders inside and outside of mission services to increase the effectiveness and improve the reputation of Goodwill programs
  • Program participant outcomes data tracking and resource budgeting
  • Maintain participant information in the participant database and in the case file on a daily basis
  • Review medical, academic, assessments, resume and other pertinent information necessary to become familiar with a participant’s skills, abilities and interests
  • Develop a written individual employment plan inclusive of developing work skills and behaviors to support employment
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information at all times
  • Complete tasks in compliance with all company policies, procedures and legal requirements
  • Crosstrain to serve as back-up Career Coach, GoodWorks attendant and other mission related positions
  • All other duties as assigned by the Career Impact Program Manager


The Employment Skills Trainer will be a proven leader with the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, psychology, communication, education, adult education, human resources, or related field
  • Strong background in developing and maintaining relationships between partner agencies such as Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Ability to teach adult learners in small groups or in a classroom setting, reentry or corrections background strongly preferred
  • Ability to recognize potential problems within processes and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Basic understanding of the workforce development sector, legal requirements regarding employment (ADA, WOTC, etc.)
  • Ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously
  • Microsoft Office and Windows proficiency
  • Must have and maintain reliable transportation, clean MVR, valid license and insurance to transport clients and/or drive for company-related business
